About IEM (Sarawak Branch)

Introduction

The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia was formed in 1959 with an objective of promoting and advancing the science and profession of all aspects of engineering.

Under Engineers Act, all engineers must register with Board of Engineers, Malaysia before they can practice as engineers. The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia has been a body which helps to qualify engineers by conducting Professional Interviews and other assessments. Through these qualifications, engineers may obtain the status of M.I.E.M. and Professional Engineer with a title of (Ir.). Only Professional Engineers are allowed to submit plans and drawings legally.


Branches 

Currently, it has the following branches: namely, Northern Branch, Southern Branch, Penang Branch, Eastern Branch, Sabah Branch, Sarawak Branch, Miri Branch, Perak Branch, Melaka Branch, Negeri Sembilan Branch, Kedah-Perlis Branch.

 

Sarawak Branch

Sarawak Branch was formed in 1968 with presently membership strength of 2,556. It has two other regional offices, namely Sibu and Bintulu. At present, the secretariat for the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Sarawak Branch is situated at International Engineering Centre (IntEC), A2-G-19 & A2-1-19, Isthmus Raintree Square, Lot 3249, MTLD Block 7, Jalan Keruing, 93450 Kuching, Sarawak with office contact no. of 082-288856.
